Last saturday I went to kuya Edwin's birthday party in Dolo, province of Venice. It was a dive to a real Farmville!! Their house was sorrounded by a real vineyard...
and they cultivate tomato, onions, squash and rose.
They even have a Border Collie dog!!
But anyway, I'm not here to talk just about the farm and their house...but about what I ate there.
All filipinoes can't celebrate their birthdays without the very special Pansit/Pancit. It is made of rice noodles with vegetables (stringbeans, celery, carrots, cabbage), meat and shrimps. It is easy to cook and it doesn't take hours in the kitchen. There are lots of variation of this dish and it
depends more on the type of noodles used: pancit bihon, pancit canton, pancit malabon, pancit cabagan, palabok, and more. Pansit/Pancit is very common in occasions like birthdays, weddings, baptisms, anniversaries. There is a filipino belief that this plate makes the life of the celebrant longer. "Pansit, pampahaba ng buhay!!"
Nowadays pansit is replaced by the filipino style spaghetti, specially in kid parties. The sauce is made by sweet tomato sauce - filipino style with ground beef or pork and hotdog. It is easy to cook also because ready sauce are available in the market.
Anyway, in the party we did not eat only pansit, but also grilled fish, chicken and also the ilokano specialty... the pinakbet. There are also deserts like letche flan, cuchinta and puto (made by my mom).
The party was soon ended by the heavy rain... that's why we all packed the pic-nic setting. But it was okay because we were already full. :D
